Krzysztof Smietana is one of the finest Polish violinists of our time. After graduating from the Cracow Academy he studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He won most of the national awards in Poland and has been a prize-winner in major International Violin Competitions including C. Flesch, J. Thibaud, F. Kreisler and N. Paganini. Since 1982 he has been a Professor of Violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He has made solo recital and concerto appearances around the world  including the BBC Proms. For many years he served as a guest leader for orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He has made numerous recordings for Radio, Television and CD including the Panufnik violin concerto with London Musici and the Stravinsky violin concerto with the Philharmonia. His chamber music recordings include the Fauré and Brahms sonatas (the latter with Caroline Palmer) and piano trios by Panufnik, Shostakovich, Twardowski, Beethoven, Malawski. Schubert, Dvorak, Rachmaninov, Martinu and others. He is a member of the London Mozart Trio.
Krzysztof Smietana has given many master classes throughout Britain as well as in the US and Europe and has been a juror at international competitions. Many of his students have become successful soloists, chamber musicians and members of leading orchestras.
He plays an Italian violin by Nicola Gagliano.
