"SCHUBERT'S OCTET IN BIEDERMEIER VIENNA" - MONDAY, 17 DECEMBER 2012

The Associazione Mozart Italia, Sede di Terni’s latest concert to take place in the provincial capital will be on Monday, 17 December, 2012 at the Circolo Il Drago (Palazzo Canali-Morelli) at Largo Silvestri, 20. The concert will enjoy, as always, the generous support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Terni e Narni and of the Casse di Risparmio dell’Umbria. The protagonists of the evening, which concludes the 2012 concert year for the Mozart Association, will be soloists from the Ensemble del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The eight soloists of the highest levels of the Roman theater will be: Calogero Palermo (clarinet), Eliseo Smordoni (basson), Carmine Pinto (horn), Francesco Malatesta e Barbara Agostinelli (violins), Paolo Finotti (viola), Andrea Bergamelli (cello) and Massimo Giorgi (contrabass). On the program is one of the most complex works of chamber music from the 1800s, the “Octet in F Major” Op. 166 D. 803 by Franz Schubert, considered a typical work of the Biedermeier period in Vienna. It is not by chance that the title of the event, “Schubert’s Octet in Biedermeier Vienna,” was chosen. The Biedermeier period, which corresponds in 1824 (the year of the work’s composition) to the style and climate of the capital, was more sober and conservative after The French Revolution and the Imperial Style. This was visible above all in the architecture and furniture design in use in the theaters, cafes, dance halls and public entertainments that animated the city. Schubert’s “Octet” covers the entire program, given its ample dimensions, which surpass an hour of uninterrupted and perfectly enjoyable music. It is unaffected by Romantic dualism, written along the lines of Beethoven’s famous “Settimino” and in general in the spirit of 18th Century fun. Internally, the work is divided into six well-articulated movements, and is moreover written in an atmosphere of positivity, freshness and typical Schubertian melodic happiness. Given the large number of people attending the Association’s previous concert of 2 December, a reservation is advised. Entrance is free.
