Born in Catania, he studied in Milan with Carla Castellani. Winner of the international competition “Adriano Belli» at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto (1993), where he attended the Master classes of Mietta Sighele, Roberto Accurso made his operatic debut in Spoleto as Escamillo in La tragédie de Carmen, a new version of the Bizet’s masterpiece staged by Peter Brook and Marius Constant. He also performed in Spoleto as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore.
Since then, he has been invited by the major Italian and international opera houses: Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Arena di Verona, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Liceu di Barcellona, Bayerische Staatsoper  in Munich, Frankfurt Oper, Opéra National de Paris, Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Monnaie de Bruxelles, Festival International d’Art Lyrique in Aix-En Provence and Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofía" in Valencia, New National Theatre in Tokyo.
Roberto Accurso has collaborated with such conductors as Marc Albrecht, Bruno Bartoletti, Daniele Callegari, Paolo Carignani, Riccardo Chailly, Alan Curtis, Daniele Gatti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Alain Lombard, Peter Maag, John Neschling, Daniel Oren, Seiji Ozawa, Evelino Pidò, Michel Plasson, Kazushi Ono, Stefano Ranzani, Wladimir Jurowski, Nicola Rescigno, Carlo Rizzi, and stage directors such as Daniele Abbado, Henning Brockhaus, Robert Carsen, Filippo Crivelli, Hugo De Ana, Piero Faggioni, Alberto Fassini, Ugo Gregoretti, Lorenzo Mariani, Giancarlo Menotti, Laurent Pelly, Giorgio Pressburger, Luca Ronconi, Carlos Saura, Stefano Vizioli, Peter Mussbach, Jossy Weiler e Franco Zeffirelli.
He opened the 2015/16 season with his outstanding role debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni at Teatro Verdi di Sassari.
Among his future plans are Carmen at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Gianni Schicchi and La traviata at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Le nozze di Figaro at Liceu de Barcelona and Adriana Lecouvreur at Opéra de Montecarlo.
During the 2014/15 season he performed Turandot (Ping) in Essen, Un ballo in maschera at the Monnaie in Bruxelles and La bohème at Terme di Caracalla in Rome.
During the 2013/14 season he performed La traviata (Barone) at Teatro alla Scala and La fanciulla del West (Jack Wallas) at Opéra National de Paris. During the 2012/13 season he performed La fanciulla del West (Jack Wallas) at the Opéra de Montecarlo, Guillaume Tell (Leuthold) at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and Madama Butterfly at the Liceu de Barcelona.
In the past seasons he took part in productions of Il campiello by Wolf-Ferrari, Il barbiere di Siviglia and Lucrezia Borgia at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Lucrezia Borgia at the Teatro alla Scala, La bohème (Marcello), La cenerentola (Dandini), L’italiana in Algeri, Carmen, La fanciulla del West and Marie Victoire at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Carmen at the Arena di Verona, La bohéme at the Teatro Regio di Parma, L’elisir d’amore (Belcore) and La vita nuova by Wolf-Ferrari at the Frankfurt Opera, Gianni Schicchi at the Opéra National de Paris, La bohème with the

His discography includes, among others, I pagliacci along with Andrea Bocelli (Decca), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Sony), a new Decca recording of Andrea Chénier along with Andrea Bocelli, Violeta Urmana and Lucio Gallo, and such DVD releases as Otello at the Liceu in Barcelona along with Josè Cura, Carmen at the Arena di Verona (staged by Franco Zeffirelli), Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam (Opus Art).
